Superb Mimics

The Superb lyrebird found in Australia is about the size of a chicken, but the male has large and spreading tail feathers which grow up to 76cm in length. When erected these feathers form the shape of the ancient musical instrument called ‘lyre’.
Besides the Superb lyrebird, there is another species called the Albert lyrebird. Both are excellent mimics being able to imitate not only the songs and cries of other birds, but also sounds like the whistle of a train or the barking of a dog.
